Pediatric dentists may be granted hospital privileges to provide care for patients with anxiety, dental phobia, or the inability to tolerate treatment in the dental office. In such instances, the pediatric dentist will collaborate with board-certified medical anesthesiologists to complete dental treatment using general anesthesia in a controlled hospital setting.
General anesthesia is considered for:
- Young children who have extensive treatment needs
- Patients who may a history of traumatic dental experiences
- Children and/or adults who have additional physical, mental, behavioral, or medical needs
