Hospital Dentistry

Pediatric dentists may be granted hospital privileges to provide care for patients with anxiety, dental phobia, or the inability to tolerate treatment in the dental office. In such instances, the pediatric dentist will collaborate with board-certified medical anesthesiologists to complete dental treatment using general anesthesia in a controlled hospital setting.

General anesthesia is considered for:

  • Young children who have extensive treatment needs
  • Patients who may a history of traumatic dental experiences
  • Children and/or adults who have additional physical, mental, behavioral, or medical needs

Frequently Asked Questions

Sporting Smiles submits to insurance for only the dental services rendered during the procedure; any hospital related treatment such as the facility setting and anesthesia services are submitted to your medical insurance separately by the treating location. You will need to contact the treating location directly to determine why you are receiving a medical bill.

If you have any questions about this during the scheduling process, please discuss them with our Hospital Dentistry Coordinator, who will connect you to the appropriate department within the hospital to discuss your account.

Due to the nature of dental related procedures and the risk of infectious aerosol contamination, both Dr. Khurana and our affiliated hospitals require a negative Covid test prior to any hospital dentistry procedure.
